Jim, can you type up the notes you took at the meeting? Re organization - Toby, Phil, Hans, Jim and myself attended the meeting. Phil is a programmer, but we didn't really let him get a word in during the meeting. We had one absolute newbie sit in for the last 15 minutes or so, and he left with Mandrake 8.0 to try out. We decided that there will be various jobs given to individuals (Jim has the details, I'm not sure I remember the final outcome for some of them). One thing we decided in the last half hour was that we won't have a "president" per se, but rather a "core." (I know, I know - "Core" is kind of pretentious for a small-time operation like ours. I (we) have big ambitions.) Core as it stands right now consists of Toby, Jim, and myself. Hans had to leave before we got a firm commitment from him but my impression was that he is interested. Being in Core means that we have an obligation to regular participation in the LUG, and an obligation get things done if need be. We serve the other members. Of course right now there aren't a lot of other members to serve, but hopefully that will change. What does this mean for the LUG? Simple - no major decisions can be made unless Core agrees to it. It does not have to be a unanimous Core decision, rather a majority decision. (For that reason we should probably have an odd number in Core, three or five people). There is no one person in charge, meaning members have more points of contact and we have the ability to carry on should one of us be AWOL for some reason or other. Hopefully Core will give some impetus and direction to the LUG and help us grow. Thanks to Jim for setting up the meeting room, and to everyone else for hashing this stuff out. I feel a lot better about our future now. Cheers, James ------------------------------------ This is the Juneau-LUG mailing list.
