Thought I'd keep you all in touch with what is happening at UAS. I
apologize for neglecting to keep you all more informed, but it has been
a very busy two semesters in the past year. As the instructor for the
Linux class, I personally enjoyed teaching the class. I hope the
students got as much as I did. One of the chief objectives of this past
year was to explore the techniques used for automated updating using YUM
and automated RPM downloading. Students also provided some projects of
which I hope to post some of the results to our department website.

I am currently writing from Columbia, Missouri, attending an IT
Forensics conference sponsored by SANS. Needless to say, it is Linux on
steroids, as I had to reconfigure my Windows XP production laptop into a
Fedora Core 4 system, equipped with VMWare (which you all discussed at
length last month). We will be loading three Windows operating systems
via VMWare for our lab exercises. It is my hope that I can bring some
valuable experience with virtual technology and share it with the group.

It appears I will be teaching CIOS 310 (Linux) Spring 2007. If you or
anyone you know is interested, please have them send me a note
(eric.niewoehner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx) or call me at my office (796-6363).

Regarding the LUG, I have been vigorously promoting your group. Some of
your threads came alive because of the some topics dropped by the
students last year and your input proved quite helpful. It is my hope
that we can add to your group in the coming year. If I wasn't teaching
classes on Monday nights and lately having to coach baseball games, I
would love to attend your meetings and get to know the group better. In
the meantime, feel free to send me a note.
