true enough, but then again I have yet to have the need to "tweek" any code for a new platform.. besides which I would think it would be near impossible to port from sparc to Intel. with the available distros for whichever architecture you happen to be running it would seem to be a redundant chore to port something over.. -----Original Message----- From: juneau-lug-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:juneau-lug-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of James Zuelow Sent: Wednesday, December 18, 2002 7:37 PM To: juneau-lug@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [juneau-lug] Re: January Meeting On Wed, 18 Dec 2002 17:03:53 -0900 "Clay Robidoux" <loki@xxxxxxx> wrote: > > just a reminder Solaris IS free if you own the hardware... and ebay > is just a few clicks away... > > Well, Internet Explorer is free too. Just don't ask for the code... You cannot download Solaris, tweak it a little bit (say, port it over to Alpha hardware) and then distribute it. Sun's lawyers would be all over you. "Free Software" does not refer to monetary cost. It is a failing of the English language that the same word has so many meanings.
