I have been thinking about how to get even more people interested in the
LUG and have come up with an idea. I think that an open house style open
source showcase might bring a few people in. Most non-Linux users that I
know are entrenched in Windoze, so they are unlikely to drop everything
and switch. But if they can be shown that there are plenty of open
source apps available and can be conviced to install them, they may warm
up to the idea of an open source OS.

I am slowly bringing in Mozilla, the Gimp and Open Office to 7 mile
DOT. Granted, the main reason I am installing Open Office is that Draw
does a fine job of cleaning up windows metafiles generated from Autocad,
but at least the IT folks o.k.ed it. It would be real expensive to equip
everyone with Corel Draw or Designer to do this one task, or Photoshop
to touch-up our digital photos, so using Open Source software is a big
money saver for these non-mission critical tasks. Who knows, someone may
start using the Open Office apps.....they are more up to date that the
Office 97 apps we are using!

Just a thought. Any comments?

Chuck
