Do you have a non-production machine you can play with?  Download that
Microsoft DOS client and see about setting it up.  

We can help you with the Samba side of things.  I'll look around here
and see if I can find some DOS 6.22 installation disks.  I have an old
340MB IDE drive that Hans gave me.  I can pop that into the Vectra,
download the MS client, and experiment on this side.  

Although if you've got Samba working with the Win98 machines there
shouldn't be too much trouble.  The only thing that comes to mind is
that the Win98 machines might be using encrypted passwords, where the
DOS client probably doesn't (since Win95 didn't use encrypted
passwords).  You might have to turn encrypted passwords off on your
Win98 machines and Samba so that the DOS SMB client is compatible.
