If it is anything like RH 8 (and I think mandrake is) It is probably having
a IRQ conflict with the firewire and the loopback (don't ask me why)
deja.com usta have a few comments on potential fixes (I ended up simply
disabling my firewire to make it work)

for what its worth....

Mike,

Where in the boot process does it hang?  You should see a list of
things the kernel is doing, followed by an OK.

Do you see a task such as 'configuring network interfaces' that does
not get an OK when it hangs, or do you see a blank line under the last
OK?
