I know its not quite linux but http://www.freenas.org/ might work.  It
looks like they also have a vmware image that you can download and test
it out with.  It is managed buy a web interface, like many other nas
devices.  IIRC you will want to set up the RAID array with compaq's
tools before you install the OS.  But then you should be good to go.
