Baton Rouge Non-profit Needs More Used Computers
February 07, 2006

Schools and libraries in the areas hardest hit by hurricanes Katrina and
Rita are starting to come back on line. Nancy Jo Craig and the CACRC
(Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council) have been working hard to
refurbish, donate, and distribute close to 1200 personal computers since
the hurricanes, and now need more.

She writes me: "I have to tell you sometimes the tragedy of these two
hurricanes and their aftermath is just overwhelming. It is hard to even
put it into words. There are places that I have loved all my life that
just no longer exist. Today for some reason has felt especially hard.
Everyone in the state is still in a weird state of shock and sorrow.

"We have donated close to 1200 computers. The bulk of these have gone to
schools in impacted areas, displaced non-profits, area non-profits that
are working on hurricane relief projects, and individuals. Over 600 were
placed in schools, 400 in non-profits and 200 with individuals. We are
running low on computers and hope we can get another round donated. The
need is still great."

The National Cristina Foundation is helping to coordinate donations to
Nancy Jo and CACRC, and contact information is below. There is some
limited funding to help with transportation costs, but it is only for
larger shipments. Contact: Rob Zopf Vice President of Operations
