As I noted about a month and a half ago, I was heading down to Missouri
for a forensics conference. It was fun, challenging and exhausting.
Also had a chance to play around with VMWare. Nice product and handled
anything we could throw at it.
If there was a drawback it was that SANS assumed too much about the
background of most of the participants, many of whom had limited
experience in Linux. It was interesting to see how I was not alone in
the world. Wireless connectivity was not a requirement for our systems,
but it was a common problem with many who were using Intel platforms. I
attempted to upgrade my Fedora system to Core 4 2.16 to see if it
resolved the wireless problem, but only succeeded in short-circuiting
VMWare. One of my best students is currently beating his head against
the wall with a Dell laptop and Fedora Core 5. Makes it tough to
monitor wireless network traffic with a wireless connection.

Other than that, came up with all sorts of fun toys from Helix and other
sources. If I make it to a meeting, my show you some of the stuff. In
the meantime, I am hoping to put something together as a formal
presentation so it can wet your appetite.
