If you're trying to watch a Hollywood movie, you're probably running into their copy protection efforts. You'll need to install libdvdcss (I think that's what it's called). Technically, if you run that you may be guilty of breaking the DMCA. It sucks but that's life. If you're trying to read a data DVD that someone gave you, it may just be corrupt. Hard to say at this point.
