I shut it down last night.

A long term local game is no problem. The updates are really flexible - I can
have them go every 24 hours, turn them off during the weekends, turn them off
only on sunny weekends, only have updates on weekends, etc. etc.

You can't play this version of Empire over e-mail, you'd need to directly
connect to the game server, but as long as you do it at least once between
updates you're OK. Backing off the updates makes that easy. It also makes it
easier to research exactly what you want to do & how to do it.

I can try to find the source for the e-mail version of Empire - I've never
played it, but I've seen it referenced here and there. I don't think it is
really the same game, it just shares the name.

Cheers,

James
