Keeping with the games theme we had last meeting, I'll be hosting an Empire
game tomorrow. Empire is a very very old network game that I used to play on
the VAX at UAF in 1987. It has been updated over time with GUI clients, new
features & bugfixes. But if you want to play it in text mode on a VT102
terminal like I used to, well that will still work too. Server-Client
communication is essentially a telnet session so you don't need a lot of
bandwidth. In fact, in games with daily updates (or even updates every 72
hours or weekly) you don't need to be online more than a few minutes per turn.
Empire is kind of like Freeciv, but a little more detailed & a little more
intense. It is also like chess - easy to learn, hard to master.

This game: Juneau-LUG RainFest Blitz No.1

Nothing special - a stock build of Wolfpack empire 4.2.14 (see
http://www.wolfpackempire.com).

I'll keep it a stock build so anyone interested in learning Empire will have a
standard environment. I won't be playing (hard to play & be the diety at the
same time), but I'll be around if there are any problems. You will need a
client. See http://www.wolfpackempire.com/clients.html for some plain text and
GUI clients.

server: Seawolf.juneau-lug.org
port: 6542
level: newbie
Game start: 0900 24 April
Updates: Every 30 minutes

Ten countries set up, with country-name "1" representative (password) "1", etc.
etc.

Use the "change" command to rename your country (before you break) and the
break command to start playing, updates every 30 minutes. I don't expect all
the countries to be used, but I'll leave them in play just in case someone
shows up late.

If anyone is interested, I can run a game every weekend, or a 24-48 hour update
long-term game that lets you set your own schedule for playing. These tend to
take a long time to finish (months) but are good for learning as you have time
to read the documentation during your turn. I'll try to get
seawolf.juneau-lug.org set up with the Empire documentation. Until then, see
http://www.toger.us/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=3 for some good
info.

Cheers,

James
