This list has been pretty quiet lately, so I will try and liven things up a bit. I currently use Fedora Core 2. I mostly like it and it is fairly easy to keep up-to-date using apt/synaptic, but the frequency of version changes and the problems with upgrades, especially on systems like mine with many non-standard packages, makes me think that I should try some other distro that isn't such a pain to upgrade. I would consider a distro that uses, or at least has available, all the standard KDE packages. The distro needs to include the devel packages, since I will need to compile certain programs that are only available in src tarballs. I started to do the Gentoo install on my test system. The documentation is great, but it still is quite a chore to install (at least doing a stage 1 install.) I may have to try it again sometime, but do a stage 2 or 3 install just to see what it is like. Yoper installs easily and runs fast, but seems to be a bit limited. Might be wrong on this, so I should give it another go sometime. Should I try Mandrake, Mepis, Debian? Let me know. I'll keep a tally of your votes. At the very least, I will know what distro everyone on this list uses! Chuck Hakari P.S. Happy New Year! ------------------------------------ This is the Juneau-LUG mailing list.
