Well, yes.  That's standard for most companies who sell Linux hardware - they 
won't support other people's implementations or hardware that they don't know 
much about, and they won't try to figure out why the tarball you downloaded 
from somewhere in byelorussia won't compile.  :)  
The key is that it is Linux that you can still download for free, and it is 
officially supported.  That last point is more important for a lot of 
management types, which is why it might be a good note for your boss.

The servers that HP is offering don't have such a bad price point for 
business/government - about $3K barebones, $5K for a basic one.  Way above the 
budget I have for home.  (The Dell dual processor Precision 410 at state 
surplus is over my budget at just $75!)
