I sent a nastygram to Sen. Steven's Washington office when I first heard
of this legislation...got a canned answer back. I really don't think
that the honorable Mr. Steven's could talk intellegently about the bill.
He just got talked into co-sponsoring for a sizable sum of money I'm
sure.

Either that or it's trade-off for some other bill he's pushing. In
either case, he need s to know this is REALLY bad legislation. Maybe
snail-mail will get noticed?? I dunno, he seems to have the bit inhis
teeth.

Somehow we need to get him (or his staff) to understand that this
proposed legislation is not only wrong but stupid! What's the point in
crippling the widely used hardware and software for the sake for a
narrow special interest? Is this Disney's roundabout way of shutting
down production of such things as Lord of the Rings, which depend in
large part on open software ??

I need to give this more thought before I can come up with ways to exert
some influence here...

Tom
