you will need a crossover cable if you are going from computer to computer, cat 5 if you have hub. i know they make a tester for cat5 cables. could use a ohm meter but the conections are kinda small. hope that helps. I'm trying to set up a Win98 box to access the internet through my Linux box. I believe I have all software settings correct but cannot ping either box from the other and no lights show on either box's network card. They are connected with a straight-through CAT5 cable. Should I be using cross-over? Also could someone point me to some info on testing CAT5 cable? Can it be tested with a common multi-tester? -- Tom ------------------------------------ This is the Juneau-LUG mailing list.
