Here's an outline of what I'm intending to present this next meeting (see,
I'm organized this time!):

I. Overview of Apache
        1. Demo of working server
        2. Organization of files
        3. Preview of httpd.config
II. Installing from packages
        1. Short overview of .rpm, .deb, .tgz packages and
installing when Linux is installed (RedHat, SuSE, etc)
III. Upgrading Apache
        1. Live demo of upgrading 1.3.19 to 1.3.24 using source tarball
           and Apache's "semi-automatic" config utility.
        2. Short overview of .rpm, .deb, .tgz packages. (Probably
concurrent with watching the compiler messages from 1.)
IV. Configuring Apache
        1. Basic httpd.conf directives
           a. Server options (directory lists or not, server signature,
etc.) NOTE: SSL will not be covered, maybe next time.
           b. Security options (basic authentication, cgi script allow,
              follow symlinks, etc.)
           c. Some basic alias & mod_rewrite rules to handle common
              situations like missing trailing slash.
V. Conclusion
        1. Demo of our finished 1.3.24 server

HANDOUT: The completed httpd.conf

I haven't rehearsed this, but I would guess at 30-45 minutes if there are
no questions asked - probably an hour in real life.

I will be bringing a set of boxes for the demo - a server, a workstation,
and a hub, plus the projector and maybe a monitor. Someone to help carry
would be nice. :)

These boxes can probably double for Toby's Cisco demo - Toby, let me know!

I've been doing nothing but study Win2k server lately, so I won't be ready
for the first week in April. I'll start penciling in a meeting during the
third week of April unless someone has objections. I haven't heard any
comments regarding a weeknight or Sunday meeting (and haven't talked to
the Library yet either to check availability).

Cheers,

James
