I have had an interesting day. I tried to shutdown, but ended up with a
continuous stream of "trace" information. Hit the reset (there was no disk
activity) and started the reboot process. I hadn't toggled of the automatic
fsck at 20 reboots, so fsck starts to do it's thing when the kernel has an
"Oops" and kernel panics, etc, etc. After muddling around in rescue mode
(couldn't figure where to go with it), I remembered my most current boot
disk. I was able to get in with that to change my filesystems back to ext2
and configured Lilo with one of my 2.4.5 kernels. I don't know why I removed
the 2.4.5 config in the first place! I guess a lot of my problems had to do
with the 2.4.17 kernel. They called it stable, but I'm not so sure. I think
that I'll wait for a new stable kernel. For the time being, I'm going to
check on an ext3 patch for the 2.4.5 kernel
