Slider limits are much like joint limits.  If you set a slider's limits to
-1 and 1, the slider will only allow the bodies it joints to move apart
one unit in either direction.  Without limits or motors, the slider will 
allow the two objects to slide apart to infinity.

On a related note... There is a bug in the physics library that can cause
objects to spin faster and faster until they explode or fall to the
ground.  It's generally not a problem, but sliders with limits seem to
cause this bug to appear more often.
