I am a moron! Thank you. My gauge now works perfectly with the expression  -
 
%((A:FUEL TOTAL QUANTITY, gallons) 100 * (A:FUEL TOTAL CAPACITY, gallons) /  
)%3.1f!
 
which is the way I was trying to get it to work. I didn't try your  
expression as now I've fixed it I'll leave it alone!
