Sounds like your USB ports are not working or duffy.

As an aside, you would be better using an ethernet connection, USB do not have that much of a throughput, and time you add on more USB connections, the load will shut it down.

If your ADSL modem has an ethernet port, use it. Or get one that does. It will leave your USB ports with spare capacity.
