My experience is the same. I found the oppostite in FS2K2.

There are those that say that FS runs more reliably in windowed mode, as it
is (apparently) using less resource.  I have
absolutely no idea whether this is true or not.  I come at it from the angle
"my map, flight plan, Plog, Pooley's and
other bits and pieces do not fill my windshield in the RW, so why should
they in FS.".
