You have it spot on. Vista 64 is a 64bit OS and programs have to be coded
for it. Whilst the majority of software can run on either OS the add-on
market is a bit different - programmers may not have the means to code in
64
bit.
The SBS software I run works in 32 or 64bit flavours of Vista - albeit
with
different drivers needed. Most of the add-on programs have been written
by
the user base but none have released a 64 bit version. Gary is working on
one now for his ActiveDisplay program but it will be a separate download
from the 32 bit version.
I've no doubt FSX works in Vista 64. What you need to check is the rest
of
the software you use - IVAN/IVAC, FSNav, FSC, all aircraft and scenery
programs with auto installers and so on. You also need to check that any
hardware you use has the necessary 64 bit drivers - GoFlight, TrackIR,
Saitek etc.

A couple of the chaps I fly with regularly have Vista 64 systems, and

both seem to get more than the usual portion of mystery FSX crashes. They
are both the sort of chaps willing to try the latest toys, and so it

just not be Vista 64 to blame.
I have been running with Vista 32 for some time now, I'm limited to 4
Gigs
of memory. I did have hang on boot problemsat first, but they disappeared
when I disabled the quick boot feature in my BIOS. No other problems
though.
I would recommend that if you do go the Vista 64 route you keep a diary
of
changes you make to your system, and any FSX crashes, to see if you can
spot
what caused the problem. I suspect there's FSX add-ons out there that may
be
to blame, the problem is that they work for an hour or so, and then just
when you are sorting out your approach...........
