A quick check, V64 drivers for a new printer, which I am in the market for. FSC supports V32/64. Saitek is plug and play. I must install as administrator. Frank F----- Original Message ----- From: "Bones" <bones@xxxxxxx>

It would be better checking the documentation for each program to see ifthey support a 64 bit OS and whether they require different drivers. Betterto check in advance rather than find out the hard way with a stalled installation. bones bones@xxxxxxx http://woodair.net -----Original Message----- From: jhb_airlines-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jhb_airlines-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of F FISHER Sent: 22 September 2008 10:47 To: jhb_airlines@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jhb_airlines] Re: New machine Bones That can only be assertained from trial and error. I have the time, and I will not be putting my current machine to one side just yet Hopefully not too many errors. Vista 64 is a 64bit OS and programs have to be coded for it. Whilst the majority of software can run on either OS the add-on market is a bit different - programmers may not have the means to code in 64 bit. The SBS software I run works in 32 or 64bit flavours of Vista - albeit withdifferent drivers needed. Most of the add-on programs have been written bythe user base but none have released a 64 bit version. Gary is working on one now for his ActiveDisplay program but it will be a separate download from the 32 bit version.I've no doubt FSX works in Vista 64. What you need to check is the rest ofthe software you use - IVAN/IVAC, FSNav, FSC, all aircraft and scenery programs with auto installers and so on. You also need to check that any hardware you use has the necessary 64 bit drivers - GoFlight, TrackIR, Saitek etc. bones bones@xxxxxxx http://woodair.net -----Original Message----- From: jhb_airlines-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jhb_airlines-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Frank Turley Sent: 22 September 2008 07:44 To: jhb_airlines@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jhb_airlines] Re: New machineA couple of the chaps I fly with regularly have Vista 64 systems, and theyboth seem to get more than the usual portion of mystery FSX crashes. Theyare both the sort of chaps willing to try the latest toys, and so it mightjust not be Vista 64 to blame.I have been running with Vista 32 for some time now, I'm limited to 4 Gigsof memory. I did have hang on boot problemsat first, but they disappeared when I disabled the quick boot feature in my BIOS. No other problems though.I would recommend that if you do go the Vista 64 route you keep a diary ofchanges you make to your system, and any FSX crashes, to see if you can spot what caused the problem. I suspect there's FSX add-ons out there that may be to blame, the problem is that they work for an hour or so, and then just when you are sorting out your approach........... I had not realised, just how much it slowed down my current machine. This hopefully will not affect my new machine, which will be primarily for FS. I have also ditched FS9,as just very recently, it is not responding to my Saitek controls as it had, total uninstalls and reinstalls of FS9, has not got it back to as it was. A pity. Also have tested out my new toys, TrackIR and a 24 inch LCD, like wow!!! Now the fun part, reinstalling everything on the new machine and testing, I can stay online on the old machine fortuneatly Frank F--------------------------------------------------------------------------------No virus found in this incoming message.
