Thanks for the advice, keep them coming.
I must admit to some intrepidation about V64, but as this machine is
for the next 2-3 years, I had to think ahead. And no point in stuffing
in 8 gigs if I cannot use them. (and it was a bargain price)
Perhaps I will have to run in compatiability mode for FSX, we will see.
I will have to get over my affair with WinXP at some point.
Could be I will have to get V32, and reinstall with that.
If anyone else can come up with pointers, for this newbie, I will be
glad to receice them.

I have been running with Vista 32 for some time now, I'm limited to 4
Gigs
of memory. I did have hang on boot problemsat first, but they
disappeared
when I disabled the quick boot feature in my BIOS. No other problems
though.
I would recommend that if you do go the Vista 64 route you keep a
diary of
changes you make to your system, and any FSX crashes, to see if you
can spot
what caused the problem. I suspect there's FSX add-ons out there that
may be
to blame, the problem is that they work for an hour or so, and then just
when you are sorting out your approach...........

I had not realised, just how much it slowed down my current machine.

Now the fun part, reinstalling everything on the new machine and
testing,
