You should only needed to download SB3 integrated software and install, AVC
is strictly not required for the moment(I do not have it installed).
 The install will put the necessary software on your machine and create a
CSL(aircraft library).
One bug that you will find, is that when SB3 does not reconise an A/C, you
get a rather large paper dart with a large red question mark on it, as
apposed to a default A/C as in FPI. Very offputting. Other than that, much
the same as FPI to use.
You do need to connect, before setting up your FP, it will not work
otherwise.
