I have just been playing with a free download from FSWidgets called Gmap

It is a standalone onscreen terrain map, which sits between FS and Googlemaps.

Fire it up, startup FS, it will detect it and load the map at your ground position.

Zoom in to about 500ft, and the taxiways are clear to see.

There is 4 onscreen options, Terrain(default), satellite, roads and hybrid.

And you can load your flightplan in.

Ideal for VFR flight, no large paper chart sitting on your lap.

These are current satellite maps being used.

One creveat, once your flightplan is loaded, the zoom controls do not seem to work, so zoom to required level before loading.

Oh, a second screen will be advisable, it takes up a big chunk of real estate. and it can be run on another machine.

Off to follow that purple line to EGGP from EGNS.
