Hence the need for tight formation in FS, particularly if you are doing formation flying, or as a group, but when everyone is on their own FP with a common unknown destination, makes it more tricky turning the ID tags off, you cannot cheat by seeing where the nearest a/c is landed.

It's a similar situation trying to fly in formation. In the real world you can hold station on a similar speed aircraft at about a mile distance with ease, but in FS it is very difficult for a number of reasons, not least that at 1.0nm, the lead aircraft is still just one or two pixels.
