I've just asked Tony M, who runs a PC Service business. He reckons it
should be OK, with SP3.

Anyway, I've just asked my PC supplier, PC Specialists, to quote for the
extra RAM. That way I hope to avoid any incompatibility.

Doing a search on the type of RAM throws up a minefield. Some suppliers
list offers that are just a bit different from what I've specified.

XP Home? Hmmmm. You should ask someone cleverer than me for that one,
I'm afraid. I have no idea what the differences are between Home and Pro
versions, I got Pro on a recommendation re networking.

So, does that mean, with XP Home, if I increase my ram from 2Gb to
4Gb, it will use 3.5 Gb without me doing anything? If so I've
another item for my Christmas wish list.

Device manager reports 3.50GB of RAM Physical Address Extension
What is actually fitted is 640Kb base memory plus 4096Mb extended
memory
according to the Bios record.

I haven't tweaked anything yet. Windows XP Professional SP3 plus
FSX SP2
plus Horizon Gen-X version 1 with Volume 3 "flooded Lake
District" patch
all otherwise "out of the box", as it were.

Peter, is this using a mod to the FSX.cfg file? If so, what line
have you entered and have you avoided the crashes that some
users >> mention? I understand that's caused by insufficient memory
