I believe a bootable Live Linux CD will allow you to reformat the drive, and partition it.

Mike should be able to point you in the right direction.

You could set up a FAT partition from it.

Myself, I use partition magic, but that runs under windows, but I can set up partitions in any format, including Linux.

But you would need to source the laptop drivers etc first.
