In the network adapter properties on the general page there are some
check-boxes. One makes the adapter always show up in the tray. You
will also need tooltips to be spoken in your verbosity settings.

I suppose xp home (I use pro) could be different in what it shows but
that would really surprise me.

Nothing. A tooltip isn't displayed the first time you hover over the
icon. Once you open the menu or the application that deals with
networking, the tooltip appears. This is a bug in XP and no longer
exists in Vista and later.

Hi all,

some have mentioned you can get the strength of your network from the
system
tray.

I have never been able to get any info on wireless networking from the
tray on
numerous laptops all running xp home.

Any hints on what has to be configured?
