how about looking under tools, options, sounds and see if the box is checked
that says mute all sounds?

ok, so when I use to type a message on wwindows messenger(I don't have
Live), I use to hear a tapping noise while I was typing, and now all of a
sudden there is silence
does anyone know how that tapping can return?

I use windows office 2007, on a xp, jaws 11, and never had I had problems
with that tapping noise, letting me know that I am typing something,
