windows live messenger 2011 problems

hi.
wanted to install windows live 2011.a
and got windows live messenger.b
ut having problems signing in, got my correct user name and password.t
then looked up the faq, why cannot i login, well, looked at my firewall
settings, these are checked.
so went to options, then connection, then advanced in windows live messenger.
then tried the tester.
says i need to set up my proxy in control panel.
now what settings to allow this program, as i ahve a few blind friends i text
chat to.
