thank you, Jim. But in the one situation you mention, where Jaws has
crashed, how can a person find this other synth to install it or do whatever
you're supposed to do with it, if you can't see what you're doing and have
no Jawsworking? I must not be understanding something here.

Also, in order to use it with Jaws instead of Eloquence, do you have to do
something to install it on the synthesizer list in the Jaws interface so
that it can be chosen as an alternative to Eloquence? Do people often do
this, just to have another voice instead of the Jaws voice?

Sapi is a means of talking to a software synthesizer. In a condition =
where
you might need it is well when ever you want it. 2 jaws stops talking =
but
is still running. This does not happen very often any more.=20
Sapi is bundle with ms windows xp home pro and is the same synthesizer =
used
by the screen reader included with windows.=20
So yes you could go ahead and use it now if you want. There are also a =
lot
of software based synthesizers that use the sapi 5 interface one example =
of
this is at&t natural voices. Hth=20

Jim,

I don't know what SAP stands for, and I don't know under what conditions =
you

mean I might need it. Is it a software speech synth packaged with Win =
XP,=20
meant to be used with a program like Jaws as an alternative to =
Eloquence?=20
Could I switch to it right now to read the next messages from this list? =

Or, if not, what is it and what's it actually for?

Thanks,
Daniel

Hi, if you need sapi 5 you can go to the jaws control panel. Now select
langwige. Now select change synthesizer. You will see sapi 5 in the =
=3D list
press enter. Now you will be using the other synth. =3D20

I could use some instruction about this. I'm accustomed to thinking =3D
that=3D20 Eloquence simply was the synth that Jaws used out of the box. =
What
is =3D this=3D20 other synth you're talking about, how does one switch =
to it,
and why =3D would=3D20 you choose it? In an emergency where Eloquence =
failed?
Or because it's =3D a=3D20 full-featured synth whose sound you might =
prefer to
that of Eloquence?

thanks,
Daniel

Hi, with jaws under windows xp you will always have access to two =
=3D3D
software speech engines. Ms speech 5 and eloquence. =3D3D20 Hth=3D3D20

A particular easter egg has been discovered, probably with in the =3D3D =
=3D
last=3D3D3D couple of days which affects eloquence users in jaws and in =
open =3D
book=3D3D3D where if the word caesure is read by eloquence, the speech
disappears. =3D =3D3D One way one can get around this, however is to =
switch to
another synth, =3D3D =3D or=3D3D3D find that word and change the way it =
is said in
the jaws dictionary. =3D3D =3D I've not tried doing the dictionary bit =
yet, but
apparently, that is one=3D3D3D =3D =3D3D way to get around that crash =
if anyone
were to want to hit you with =3D that=3D3D3D =3D3D string of characters.
