version numbers

On another list, I have just been reading a message in which the questioner
was asking what the version number meant.  It was explained that the first
number refers to the program, the second to any minor updates that have been
made, and the third to bug fixes.
I take it, therefore, that JFW5.0.884 must have beena very sick little
cookie when it was first liberated!
