RE: turning off the laptop monitor?

This is specific to each laptop; did yours come with any documentation, =
or, perhaps it's available on the manufacturers web site?

It used to be that my thinkpad had this option, but they recently =
dropped it during one of it's driver upgrades, so the best I can do is =
to control the dimness, and dim it down to almost nothing.

You can also set the power saving options so that the monitor turns off =
after only a couple of minutes of inactivity.  Lastly, you can set it so =
that it does not go into suspend mode if you close the lid, then you =
could close the lid and use an external keyboard (hard to imagine where =
carrying around an external keyboard is really worth it I know).
