in the case of office start up stuff, you have to remove that from the 
startup folder under program files.  It does no harm except that some people 
like to use those shortcuts to launch or create in office.

hanks John.  did you mean to get rid of the office startup too?  The spyware
I already managed to get rid of.  I'm going to take David's suggestion and
go to the individual aps and configure them to not load automatically.
