MessageDave,

Very good point. I wouldn't have thought of that, but it makes sense.

That method is all fine and dandy, as long as a scheduled event, Windows
background or system event does not come along and trigger changing focus from
the program in which JAWS has been muted, even for the fleetest of moments.

In my experience, if that happens, JAWS is unmuted and starts speaking again.

Very annoying, if you are recording a program from the internet that is only
going to be broadcast once.

It would be a pity if your were doing just that and something happened to
trigger an event, that unmuted JAWS and you ended up with Windows information
being spoken over such a recording, now wouldn't it.

Often, a shortcut that carries extra risks, can and will make you pay extra
in the long run.

When I have used JAWS to set the parameters for making a recording and then
muted JAWS by the method I outlined, I know for certain, no matter what Windows
events take place in the background while JAWS is muted, JAWS will stay muted,
until I decide when to unmute JAWS.

I use total Recorder to record from the Internet. One of the main reasons
for this is that it turns off system sounds during the time any recording.

  Sincerely:

  Dave Durber

    Hi Dave,
Why not make it simpler by going INSERT V key combinations to bring up the
Adjust JAWS Verbosity Options and then going page down untill you come to
Synthesizer speech on. Here hit the spacebar once to toggle it to switch
speech off. To get speech on again, hit INSERT V.
    with warm regards,
    Amarjit

      Hi there:

Press INSERT+CTRL+S to open the "Select a Synthesizer" dialog.

Press the letter "N" to select the "No Speech Synthesizer".

Press ENTER to accept your choice and close the dialog.

You can now play your game without JAWS speaking.

When you want to have JAWS speak again, Press INSERT+CTRL+S to open the
"select a Synthesizer" dialog.

Press the Letter "E" to select Eloquence, if that is the synthesizer you
want to use.

Press ENTER to accept your choice and close the dialog.

After a few seconds you will hear JAWS speak again.

      HTH

      Sincerely:
