Hi, Chip.
        It's true of the updated firewall as well. The firewall only handles
incoming traffic, as Symantec has said, 
        http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/sp2/faq.html
and as I noticed before turning the firewall off when I installed SP2.

That's certainly true of the original xp firewall, can't say about the
one updated with sp2.
