Hi Chris,
I'm sorry you're experiencing frustration with the delay between Windows
booting up and Jaws launching. I have Win XP Home and use Jaws 6, and run
it just as you do. That configuration itself isn't any sort of problem nor
is it slowing you down. I'm not sure how many seconds it takes for Jaws to
load, but as I'm usually doing something early in the morning after I hit
the button on my computer, like making coffee in the kitchen, I don't care
very much unless I have to reboot during the day for some reason. Even
then, it doesn't seem such a long wait, not long enough to be bothersome.
So, aside from maybe going with the flow, as we used to say, or getting a
prescription for Valium or studying Buddhist meditation, you probably have
the right idea to look at what's loading in your startup group (and, as
others will quickly point out, also look at msconfig and see *everything*
that's loading) and see if you can accelerate the process a little by
deleting some things from those groups.

Again there appears to be some confusion on this issue so let me further
explain. As previously stated, or maybe I didn't so let me do it now, I
have the automatically start JAWS check box checked under options/basic
settings.
I also have the run jaws from system tray check box checked in that very
same dialogue.
If, for example, I've had to unload JAWS with insert plus f4 to play a game
it unloads fine, and when I restart it, it starts up very quickly. What
seems to take forever on my system is that *initial* startup of JAWS. In
other words, when my computer is booting up, JAWS appears to not start as
quickly as it did in previous versions. I first hear the windows xp
startup sound, and then it could be anywhere from 15 to 30 seconds before
JAWS speaks the good old, "JAWS For Windows is ready" message. In previous
versions such as 5.0 and 5.01 and even before that, it didn't seem to take
as long for JAWS to load and start speaking as it does now. From what I've
been told, if you have automatically start jaws checked, which I do, then
JAWS is run as a service. I guess there's not a lot I can do, other than
to possibly take a few other programs out of startup and see if that solves
it.
