Hi,

I'll be interested to see how fast and responsive real speak is once it comes out with Jaws 8.

I have Mike and Crystal of the A T and T voices and on my laptop they are pretty responsive but that's because of the memory and processor. on other computers they are way sluggish.

I would love to find some SAPI voices that work as well as good old elequence, but I just haven't seen any so far.

6 years ago I had to switch to elequence from a keynote gold SA. A friend at the time said I would get used to it and of course he was right. I just remember the listening curve being tuff. I imagine that's how it will be with real speak no matter how good or responsive it is.

Oh, wow. Is this one of the characteristics of RealSpeak? Am I wrong to
think I remember that, if you're using Eloquence, there's a menu item in the
Jaws configuration manager for text processing, I think is the category,
where you can define that kind of behavior? Won't those settings simply
work on RealSpeak, as well, without having to do all those dictionary
gymnastics?

Humphh. This is looking like a bit more of an annoyance than a respite from
the admittedly mechanical sound of my old friend Reed. Still, I'm looking
forward to trying it out.

John,

If FS won't fix the problem with the RealSpeak synthesizer, and you wish to
use this synthesizer, you will just have to put all of those problem words
into the Dictionary Manager in such a way that the abbreviation expansion is
defeated. DECtalk Access32 says Sunday every time it receives the word sun.
I replaced s u n with s o n in the dictionary manager, and it doesn't do
that any more.

Hi Yard Bird, believe me the misreading goes a lot further than that. I'll
give you a couple of examples. AnyDVD is read as "a new york dvd"; Neko is
read as "north east K O" and so on. The problem isn't necessarily one of
case. Max, short for Maximillian is read as Maximum; Min, short for minute
is read as minimum and the list goes on.
John.

Hi guys,

As I suggested earlier, if you capitalize the "s" in the middle of the
word,
it then sounds in Jaws as people actually say it, instead of something
like
re Ul spee yak. In other words, "realsSpeak."

Just trying to help. guess I've got sensitive ears. Hope this is
helpful
to someone besides me. Sometimes it takes a little effort to figure out
how
to make things pronounce right, especially in these times when so many
high
tech product names are designed to be run together like that, a
convention
that, now that I think of it, maybe is meant to hark back to the more
computer-y, once-novel look of how filenames had to be run together in
DOS.
Or maybe not. Whatever. But without a little attention, Jaws can't say
these clever product names without sounding retarded.

Cy, Yeah, but it's probably because they're going to be offering
Realspeak
with jaws version 8, so they probably don't want to get involved in
fixing
existing problems with versions of realspeak which are not shipping with
jaws.
Cheers.

Hi Everybody, following on from my recent postings about the problems with Realspeak and Jaws I had a reply this morning from FS regarding it. John. Dear john

Thank you for contacting Freedom Scientific technical Support. Our
development team is working to address any issues with JAWS and the
synthesizers offered
with it. However, because JAWS 8.0 is still in development, there is no
information regarding the status of any issues known currently. If I can
be
of
any additional assistance to you, feel free to email me back.
