Good evening Jennifer,

It sounds to me like you have a problem with display settings. If you are not experienced with these settings it might be difficult to explain to you how to check them with the current problem.

Regardless, in the JAWS help file there is information that explains the settings that are recommended for JAWS. You might ask a sighted friend to assist you with this.

HTH,

I have Jaws 9.0 with Windows XP Home Edition. Jaws isn't reading any menus in any program. It will read the start menu now, but if I go into Windows Media Player for example, Jaws won't read anything. I tried maximizing the window, but for some reason alt + space bar won'[t let me do it. I also can't use windows Explorer. I don't know about the Internet because I don't have it connected yet; I plan on hooking it up to the Network at The Carroll Center. I don't know what else to really say-oh jaws won't read the icons on the screen either. I press windows + M at the same time, and it says where it is, but when I arrow around Jaws says nothing.

Jennifer, you didn't give too much information here but I will try to
help. What programs are you having problems reading menus in? One thing I
have noticed with most versions of JFW is that if the window is not
maximized the menu bar quite often is not read properly. If you tell us
what operating system and what programs you are using we may be of more
help. Also on a unrelated note, keep a careful eye on that laptop at the
Carroll center, they tend to walk away sometimes.

Hi list,

I just installed JFW 9.0 on my laptop, and although it's installed as a
demo
for the time being, it won't read menus. I can press alt f or whatever
and
jaws won't read the list of options in the menu.

I had ordered jaws 7.1 standard, but I found out after I installed it
that
they sent me jaws9.0 and I don't know if it's standard or professional.
I
asked for the standard version.

I got the laptop because I'm leaving next week for the Carol Center and
wanted something to do when I'm not in class. I don't know how to fix
this.
