It seems, that the pdf files you want to convert to text contain images of a
text.
The pdf does not contain text, but a big image with text in the image.
Eventually you can try to convert the pdf with an ocr program like Omnipage or
Finereader.

I've had that happen to me as well. The only work around I can come up with is
to print it out and then use the Kurzweil
software to scan it. Not the best solution, but the one that I've used. If you
could think of anything better, I'd love to hear it.
