Dear Stan,
 
Yes, my old version did say exactly that- I think in the title bar.  It
is possible that I updated from an older version than 1.31, however, as
its probably been longer than my tmemory would allow me to be confident
on the exact old version.  
 
I downloaded the advance 1.41 and think that most of my confusion is
that which is caused by now having   the 'advanced' desktop load
automatically, when I probably had basic before.  I was going to try to
look at the tutorial re loading a different desktop over the weekend,
but didn't get that far with it.  .

OK, Cher, my 1.3 has never said anything about screen reader mode. I
just
assumed it was on because that check box is checked. Does anything in
the
jaws performance in 1.4 make you think screen reader mode is not
operative?
