The freelists software is partly to blame for this. Another thing is
that the email sender might think to turn off Quoted Printable in the
send settings of his email client. Those two together, should cut out
the signs from the composer's messages.

Ah. Okay. Sorry to say, this message is only one of a bunch of posts
over
the past couple of days that have been full of garbage characters. And
someone usually chimes in with advice either to stop whining or to make
sure
all one's settings are plain text, or something. But that's * we get
these
garbage characters, because either our email programs, or the listserv,
or
both, are set to strip away HTML or rich text coding from incoming
emails,
and in the process some residue of the HTML seems to have been left
behind.
Not meaning anything political by this.

Anyway, if people would make a practice of sending only plain text
messages
to blind mailing lists, this probably wouldn't happen. If someone here
is
more technically savvy than I and sees a mistake in my comprehension of
this
phenomenon, please correct me.
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

The = signs were what I was referring to. Otherwise the message was
fine.

Just for another point of view, I didn't have much trouble reading the
message, at least not because of missing articles or whatever may have
caught your notice, Jack,. Maybe that's because I have a number of
friends
from the former Soviet Union, and, as a result, am so familiar with
these
lapses (Russian language uses no "a," "the," etc.). But having to
listen to
Jaws speaking all those equals signs isn't much fun.
Daniel

(who wonders if the product name Yarrow reflects someone's enthusiasm
for
the I Ching, the Chinese Book of Changes. If so, that's sort of cool.
