I think any laptop plays well with jfw.

As for the sound card, I bought a 5.1 usb sound card, so you always have
that option if you can't find a laptop you like with one built into the
motherboard. I'm very happy with the usb 5.1 sound card, and I use it
with a surround sound game and a set of surround sound headphones. That
is the downside to buying an external sound card, it won't use the
built-in speakers of the laptop, so you'll have to use headphones or
external speakers. My laptop uses the built-in sound card until I plug
in the USB one, then it automatically switches over to it.

As for brands of laptops, you'll get a lot of differing opinions. Since
none of the info has to do with jaws per say, try going to a news group
like comp.sys.laptops and asking there for opinions about good laptops.
I did and there was no question, an IBM thinkpad was considered the best
built, best buy laptop (best buy meaning best value, not cheapest).
