Ryan,
you may be telling me something new and useful. Up until now, unless I
really am wrong, the Insert V menu was used in this way on the Web: If you
wanted only to change some setting for the duration of your visit to a Web
site that time, you just used the Insert V menu normally, toggling your
setting as you wanted it and pressing close. If you left the site for
another URL, when you came back, you'd have to make that adjustment all over
again.

But if you wanted the change to be permanent on that Web site, your
alternative was to include the shift key as you put up the menu, and
whatever change you made that way would hold as a "personalized" setting, I
believe it was called, for that Web site and none other.

Now are you saying this has changed, and that if I make a change to
something like this wherever I happen to be on the Web, it will hold
permanently for the browser, everywhere I go and after that current session
with the browser? That's new, if it's so, and I haven't heard that or read
such instructions.

Thanks for clarifying.

It was not clear to me if you thought you had to change this every time you
used your web browser or went to a new web site. That is not the case - you
make the change once and it will remain in effect any time you open your web
browser or visit a new web site.

I wasn't sure if you already knew this, so if I misread your message, I am
sorry for the confusion.

Hello,
If you read on through the thread you'll see that this was explained
already, and thank you for responding as well. But this is something I very
much wish could be adjusted in Configuration Manager. There was a time, a
few Jaws versions ago, when the Insert V menu was offered mostly as a
convenience, an on-the-fly way of making temporary adjustments that, if you
were serious about them, you'd probably go into Configuration manager to
change permanently.

Though the menu took on a life of its own, and no longer was every setting
in it reflective of an underlying option that was in Configuration Manager.
In this case, I regret that, because I would like to simply change this
setting to the virtual cursor option and have it remain the way it used to
be. I do a fair amount of copying and pasting from Web sites, but always,
literally always, it's text I'm after, never anything else. Now, others may
revel in being able to also copy Web pages just as they are, and I think
it's great that FS was ingenious enough to figure out a way to enable this.
But I don't want to be burdened with constantly messing with this Insert V
menu for every site from which I feel like copying something of this sort.
And I mean I don't feel like making a permanent, case by case setting via
Insert V, either. I just want it to be virtual cursor unless I decide
otherwise.

Anyway, thanks. Just annoyed with an "improvement" that, in my case, is
nothing more than an impediment.

Hi,

You don't make this change in the configuration manager. This change is made
in the new Jaws options tree view which you access by pressing the Jaws key
plus V. To make the change, do the following:

1. Open your web browser.

2. Press the Jaws key plus V to open the new tree view for Jaws options.

3. Press the down arrow key to find the option for select and copy. This is
found under the virtual cursor options. You should have to press the down
arrow key three or four times to find this option.

4. When you find the select and copy option, you can press the tab key to
move to the help window. Use the say all command to read the help
information for the select and copy option.

5. Use the shift tab key to move back to the tree view. Press the space bar
to change the options for the select and copy option. To make the option
work the way it did in earlier versions of Jaws, select the "from virtual
cursor" option.

As a side note, your version of Word may be crashing because the full
content option is the default in Jaws 9. This feature may not work properly
using Word 2000. From what I understand, some of the features that were
improved in Jaws 9 for Word may have only been done for Word 2002, Word 2003
and Word 2007. This is what may be causing your crash problem with Word
2000.

Don,

I, too, had read through the list of new features, and appreciated the
potential usefulness of the new capability. But I didn't notice anything
about it being the new default, for one thing. Secondly, I don't understand
why choosing the "wrong" mode of copying should have crashed Word. In fact,
isn't that one of the stated purposes of this new capability? To copy a
Web page in all its details into a document or an email? I could swear that
was the point of it. In any case, I'll experiment, but if that's actually
become the default, I'll regret that. I actually don't think of wanting to
copy a Web page in that way, myself, so I don't really feel that advantaged
by the change. But that's just me. Maybe a lot of people want to send each
other Web pages with all their graphical features and links and stuff.
That's fine. No complaint. I just wish my own routine hadn't suddenly become

a hassle for me.

Now, let me look below. You say there are three options now. do you happen
to understand what the difference is between copy full web page and copy
full web page with highlights? Just curious.

Also, I'm hoping desperately that I can go into Configuration Manager and
reset the default to virtual cursor copy. Can I? Where would I look for
this. In HTML options, probably?

Thanks. Wow, this is sort of a relief, anyway. Again, why should it be
crashing Word if that's what it was supposed to be for? That puzzles me.

Hi again,

Yes, I did have some of those problems, particularly with Copying and
Pasting from a web page into a Word document. Then, I looked at the "What's
New" section on the FS site and found the solution.

In JAWS 9.0, when you are in Internet Explorer, you have the option to Copy
& Paste a web page exactly as it appears to a sighted person, including
usable links & pictures, etc. or you can Copy & Paste the web page just as
text, which is the way it was always Copied & Pasted in earlier versions of
JAWS. To toggle this back & forth, open Internet Explorer & press Insert v,
which now gives you a Tree View. Cursor down to Virtual Cursor Options open
& cursor right. You will hear Select and Copy from Virtual Cursor or Select
& Copy full content or Select & Copy full content using onscreen highlight;
you can toggle among these 3 options by pressing the SpaceBar. Once you are
on the option you want, Tab around to Execute & press the SpaceBar on the
Execute button. Note: the option you want is Select and Copy from Virtual
Cursor.

    Hope this helps,

    Don
