Several months ago my XP machine went down and I bought a new 64-bit quad core machine from Best Buy and installed jfw 10. Itt repeatedly crashed so I exchanged it for another and the same problem occurred. Finally I returned this second HP computer and had my old XP box repaired and I love it. Kathye

honestly, i agree with your preferences.if i were buying a new system, i would stay with xp for a bit longer, once windows 7 is being sold with new systems, i usually wait like 6 months before trying to put it on any of my systems... i don't much care for vista, and as far as office goes, i'm in agreement there too.----- Original Message ----- From: "T Behler" <tombehler@xxxxxxxxx>To: "jaws users e-mail list" <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, September 05, 2009 9:31 PM Subject: need advice on operating system for new PCHi, all.Well, the PC I'm writing this e-mail on is almost 5 years old, and is givingme more and more fits every day, so it might just be time to purchase a newer and better PC. I know I'll get a variety of opinions on this, so please understand if I don't acknowledge every e-mail individually. I will certainly read them, and take the advice that seems best for me. Here's my dilemma:Currently, I am using Jaws 10.0. I prefer to use Windows XP as my operatingsystem, and office 2003 for my basic computer work. Jaws seems to workquite well with these set-ups. I have heard too many horror stories about Vista itself, and am not sure even how well that operating system works with Jaws. I also have tried working with Office 2007, and find it a real bear to use due to the ribbons, rather than the drop-down menus which are so mucheasier to navigate. I went to Best Buys today, and, of course, they now only sell computers with Vista, and a free upgrade to Windows 7, as of October 15.Am I doing myself a dis-service by sticking to Windows XP, and Office 2003?Does Jaws work reasonably well with Vista, and office 2007? Has anyone tried using Jaws with Windows 7? I realize that for some, these are very elementary questions. I also realize that software choices can boil down a lot to personal preference. I'm just trying to get a feel for where Jaws is with the newer operatingsystems, and whether I'd simply be better off sticking with Windows XP andOffice 2003. I hope this quiry makes sense. Again, I'm using Jaws 10.0 here with Windows XP and Office 2003. Thanks!
