To keep this relatively on-topic for the list, I'll simply answer to the best of my ability the questions of compatibility with JAWS. As of JAWS 10, from what I'm hearing, and improved upon in 11, both Windows Vista and Office 2007 work quite well with JAWS based on the opinions shared by many on this and other lists. There are folks currently running the release candidate versions of Windows 7 with mixed success using JAWS 10. Since FS plans to release version 11 to coincide with the release of Windows 7, it stands to reason they're trying to maximise compatibility between the two. And, based on what I've heard, it's definitely improving. It should be noted that, when Microsoft drops support for its older operating systems, FS tends to follow suit with subsequent versions of JAWS. To that end, it may be that while your current set-up works for you, you may find yourself limitted in tech support options if you continue to stick with XP. Microsoft is scheduled to withdraw support for XP in 2010, assuming 7 holds up better than did Windows Vista market-wise. When that happens, as has happened with Windows ME and earlier operating systems, FS will most likely cease to worry about backwards compatibility with XP as they will no longer be allowed to support it. So, from a personal preference point of view, I would encourage you to stick with what works if you can. The old motto of if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But, if you're looking to upgrade your system anyway, unless you intend to purchase a netbook which still sells with XP for the time being, go with Vista and wait for 7's release. That way, should something end up happening, you will still be able to obtain the relevant tech support from either Microsoft or FS as the situation calls for. Well, the PC I'm writing this e-mail on is almost 5 years old, and is giving me more and more fits every day, so it might just be time to purchase a newer and better PC. I know I'll get a variety of opinions on this, so please understand if I don't acknowledge every e-mail individually. I will certainly read them, and take the advice that seems best for me. Here's my dilemma: Currently, I am using Jaws 10.0. I prefer to use Windows XP as my operating system, and office 2003 for my basic computer work. Jaws seems to work quite well with these set-ups. I have heard too many horror stories about Vista itself, and am not sure even how well that operating system works with Jaws. I also have tried working with Office 2007, and find it a real bear to use due to the ribbons, rather than the drop-down menus which are so much easier to navigate. I went to Best Buys today, and, of course, they now only sell computers with Vista, and a free upgrade to Windows 7, as of October 15. Am I doing myself a dis-service by sticking to Windows XP, and Office 2003? Does Jaws work reasonably well with Vista, and office 2007? Has anyone tried using Jaws with Windows 7? I realize that for some, these are very elementary questions. I also realize that software choices can boil down a lot to personal preference. I'm just trying to get a feel for where Jaws is with the newer operating systems, and whether I'd simply be better off sticking with Windows XP and Office 2003. I hope this quiry makes sense. Again, I'm using Jaws 10.0 here with Windows XP and Office 2003. Thanks!
