?press windows key plus R. Type msconfig and after the dialog box appears go to 
start up tab and select and deselect the programs atat start when you load 
windows.

no that is to stop a running program i think what i am looking for is items tat 
start at startup and you can have that entire list of start up at boot and one 
by one choose to have it not start until you find which is the issue or they 
are all not started.

Hi George;

 

I believe the Windows Task Manager is what you're looking for.  The keystroke 
for this running XP, is control, alt + delete key.  Hope this helps.  Take care.
