It's interesting, in add/remove there's an option to show updates. Does this work for showing the jaws updates? Could you concievibly remove just the latest update? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris Skarstad" <toonhead@xxxxxxxxxx>

hi. well, it looks like it's gonna be an uninstall for me.
I ran the installer for 8.0 build 1163 just a few minutes ago and it went through it's little routine, click, cclick, click. Then I received a message telling me that the product was already installed. to modify or remove it, go to add/remove programs in control pannel. Ok so I did that. The only option I was given was remove. No modify, or repair, just remove. I had the choice to just remove JAWS, or remove JAWS and shared components. Through experience, I learned that it is most definitely not! a good idea to remove shared components, especially if you have multiple versions of JAWS and other access products on your machine, which I do. So to fix 8.0 and get it back to some sense of real normalcy, it looks like uninstalling 8.0 is my only option. I did write fs tech support in hopes they would be able to come up with some other solution. I just don't wanna have to do this because it would mean a whole lot of configuring for me and I've got better things to do with my life then try and fix a broken screenreader that should be working in the first damn place. Sorry, y'all, but I just wish fs would look at all the options before putting their product out. what if someone like me hadn't ran the previous update? I wonder if they'd be just as screwed as me. Just really frustrated now.

Hi,
Yeah, I'd go to the download page and select the http link to the package if the ftp link's giving you fits.

Ah, okay. thanks. Should I use the FTP link Allan provided, or should I go
to the FS site/Jaws Center/Downloads?

Hi,
I downloaded and ran the full install for build 1163 yesterday. If you've
already done an ILM activation for JAWS 8 on your machine, it definitely
won't ask you to re-activate, nor will it cost you a key.

P..P.S.

I clicked on the FTP link but all that happened was I got a Windows error
sound. Also, you call it a full installation? Well, that's just what I
thought I found online last night, and it said it cost an ILM key. I'm
confused.

I seem to have missed some developments since I downloaded my Jaws 8.0 in
January, because you guys are talking about having problems with an update
that you can't install as a partial update unless you've installed some
previous one that I didn't even know had been released, or something.

The version I'm running is 8.0.423. That's what I downloaded in January.

So you're saying that I can't use the auto update feature in the Jaws menu
to update this, or else I'll start having even more problems than version
8
is already giving me?

Anyway, I'd like to read an explanation about this latest version or
update,
and see if it's supposed to correct any of the glitches that have troubled
me to this point with version 8. But when I explore on the FS site to find
something, all I can find is a page offering the latest full version,
numbered 8.0.1163, with the note that it's an ILM thing. Does that mean
if,
following you guys' advice, I update by downloading the entire updated
current version, it'll require one of my keys, leaving me with one fewer,
a
possible inconveinece later? I thought updates were simply free if you
already had a current versin installed.

Maybe I'm missing a page that has only updates and some explanation about
them? After reading you guys' complaints, I'd rather download from the FS
site than use the auto update feature, but where do I go to find this
update
and read about it, too?

Thanks.
